Questions fréquentes : Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC & CICC Exam)
Des réponses claires sur la durée, les prérequis, les salaires et les méthodes d’étude.
What is the difference between an RCIC and an Immigration Lawyer in Canada?
Both Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) and Canadian Immigration Lawyers are legally authorized representatives under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) permitted to provide paid immigration advice and represent clients before Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The primary differences lie in education, regulation, and court jurisdiction. Immigration Lawyers hold a 3-year university Juris Doctor (JD) degree, are regulated by provincial law societies, and have full rights of audience to represent clients in the Federal Court of Canada on Judicial Review applications. RCICs complete a specialized university Graduate Diploma in Immigration Law, are regulated nationally by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC), and represent clients in IRCC applications, LMIA filings, and tribunal hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB with an RCIC-IRB license), but cannot represent clients in Federal Court.
How difficult is the CICC Entry-to-Practice Exam (EPE) and what is the passing score?
The College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants’ Entry-to-Practice Exam (EPE) is an online, closed-book exam of 135 independent and case-based multiple-choice questions in 3 hours; 10 questions are unscored. To sit it you must have completed an approved program (Queen’s University Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law, or the Université de Montréal D.E.S.S.) within three years of the exam (CICC).
What are the requirements to enroll in the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law at Queen's University?
Admission requirements are set by each program: read the current requirements of the Queen’s University Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law (English) or the Université de Montréal D.E.S.S. (French) before you apply.
How much do Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCICs) earn annually in Canada?
Earnings vary with whether you are employed (for example in a law firm, an accounting firm or a university’s international office) or run your own practice, and with your client base. There is no published pay scale for RCICs.
What is the RCIC-IRB class license and why is it important?
The RCIC-IRB specialization is an advanced licensing class created by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). It authorizes qualified consultants to represent clients before the four divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB): the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD), Refugee Protection Division (RPD), Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), and Immigration Division (ID). To earn the RCIC-IRB credential, consultants must complete mandatory specialization coursework and pass a dedicated exam demonstrating oral trial advocacy, evidence submission, and refugee convention law expertise.
