Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026 · Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Our Privacy Promise at a Glance

We do not require accounts or logins, we do not sell your personal information, and we run no advertising. Your learning progress, checkbox states, and preferences are stored only on your device. To understand how the site is used, we count visits with Google Analytics (no advertising features); in the UK, the EU and Switzerland only after you accept (section 4).

1. Who We Are and Scope

DraftMyCareer (https://draftmycareer.com) is an open-access educational initiative built to provide structured, self-guided career blueprints and real-world compensation benchmarks for students and career switchers worldwide.

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you visit our website, utilize our interactive roadmaps, test career match scenarios, or communicate with us through our contact mechanisms.

2. Information We Collect

We intentionally minimize data collection to the absolute technical minimum required to deliver free educational resources:

AVoluntary Inquiries

When you submit feedback or request a new roadmap via our Contact Form, we collect your name, email address, and message content. It is sent to us by email through our email provider (Resend) solely so we can answer you.

BAnonymous Server Logs

Standard technical server logs (including browser user-agent, requested URL, timestamp, and obfuscated IP) are temporarily retained by edge CDN hosts for DDoS mitigation and uptime assurance.

3. Browser Local Storage & Cookies

Unlike platforms that track user behavior across the web, DraftMyCareer leverages client-side Web Storage (localStorage) to enhance your user experience completely offline:

  • Theme Preference: Storing your selected dark or light mode setting.
  • Language Choice: Remembering your chosen localized language (pathwise-lang).
  • Roadmap Step Progress: Tracking which study milestones, books, and courses you have marked completed so you can resume where you left off.
  • Salary Region Filter: Remembering your selected currency/geography in the Global Salary Explorer.

This data never leaves your computer or mobile browser and can be cleared instantly by clearing your browser site data or cookies. Your cookie choice (Accept or Decline) is stored the same way. Google Analytics, if allowed, sets its own first-party cookies (named _ga) to tell visits apart (section 4).

4. Analytics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages help people, so we can improve the site. It records the pages you view, roughly where you are (country or city, worked out from your IP address, which Google does not store), the type of device and browser, and how you arrived (for example from a search). It does not receive your roadmap progress, your Find My Match answers or anything you type.

  • Advertising features are off: no Google signals, no ad personalisation, and no ad cookies.
  • UK, EU and Switzerland: nothing is measured until you choose Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline, Google Analytics stores nothing on your device.
  • Change your mind any time: use Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
  • Only on draftmycareer.com: Google Analytics loads after the page has finished loading and never on test or preview copies of the site.

Site rating survey

After a few minutes of use we may invite you, at most once every 30 days, to answer a short anonymous survey about the site. If you answer, we store your answers together with your site language, the region you chose, the type of device, how many pages you viewed and which roadmaps you opened. We do not store your name or IP address. Answers are kept for 13 months and used only to improve DraftMyCareer.

The survey has an optional box asking whether we may email you once, two weeks later, to ask if the site helped. Only if you tick it and type your email address do we store that address, and we use it for that single email only. To have it deleted sooner, write to support@draftmycareer.com.

5. Third-Party Services & External Links

Our career roadmaps recommend curated third-party educational tutorials, university courseware (e.g. MIT OpenCourseWare, Harvard CS50, freeCodeCamp, Khan Academy, MDN Web Docs), and professional documentation.

When you click external links, you leave DraftMyCareer. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of external platforms, as their data collection practices are governed by their respective terms.

6. GDPR & International Privacy Rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK Data Protection Act, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), users possess comprehensive privacy rights:

Right of Access & Portability: You may request a copy of any personal communication records you have submitted to us.

Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You may request deletion of any contact email records or feedback correspondence at any time.

Right to Non-Discrimination: We provide identical 100% free access to all educational features regardless of your privacy preferences or requests.

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

DraftMyCareer provides open educational information suitable for students of various ages. However, we do not knowingly solicit or collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal contact information, please notify us immediately for prompt deletion.

8. Data Security and Retention

All web traffic to DraftMyCareer is enforced via Modern HTTPS (Transport Layer Security 1.3 encryption). We retain contact inquiries only for the duration necessary to resolve user questions, deliver roadmap feedback, or improve platform curriculum accuracy.
